The mission of The Hideout, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization, is to enrich the lives of children, teens, and young adults by providing diverse classes and activities designed so everyone has the opportunity to make progress at their own pace. We offer opportunities to make friends, have fun, learn skills, work and participate in activities that ensure participant well-being so they may lead more independent, purposeful lives.
Our organization provides classes and activities for children, teens and young adults. Classes are designed help advance skills, improve socialization and provide support so that every participant can achieve their goals at their own pace. We will also offer monthly social events and fundraising events to the community to allow for more inclusion of all abilities.
Back in 2018, the President of the Hideout had just worked as a Speech Language Pathologist and provided therapy to various special needs families whose children were due to age out in the upcoming years. Parents began seeking support and peace of mind from her for what happens after 21. Parents asked for ideas for facilities that would be appropriate for their children and also be safe which is their primary concern as most of their children exhibited limited verbal abilities and use of AAC devices to communicate.
Parents continued to seek assistance from her and insisted that she open an establishment due to her commitment and abilities to support their children. It wasn’t until the 2020 pandemic that she realized how all individuals of all abilities not just autism and special needs were impacted by the pandemic. She had in the back of her mind the goal to create a place where they could feel safe, be welcome, thrive and also help other families to feel the same as well. She felt a strong need to provide a space that was safe and inviting for individuals with special needs to be able to flourish in a place which would gap in services and opportunities for individuals with autism/special needs and their families – a gap that the Hideout is ready, willing and able to fill. In 2022, she began holding small social groups events and small group cooking classes. It was so much fun to organize and host these events, and to see the happiness and fun that the kids had made it all that more worthwhile.
The Hideout New York was created in 2022 and then finally approved as a 501c3 not-for-profit organization in 2023. Between investors and trying to find the right location, The Hideout has worked on the back part of the business finding grants and investors to help with our mission.
We are happy to announce that July 2024 will be the opening of our first physical location in Bayport, NY with other locations to within New York and Florida to open soon as well. The Hideout hopes to expand to other states in the future to making individuals of all abilities all over the world feel and become more inclusive within their community and give parent’s peace of mind for what comes next for their child and throughout the years leading up to this moment.
